The story behind the mission
Around 7 months ago, my seven-year-old son came to me and said: “Mummy, I know what I want to do when I’m older. I want to make Pokémon come to real life - and I want to help everyone in the world know the truth in their hearts.”
It wasn’t the first time he’d said that phrase - the truth in your heart. It had become a little saying between us, ever since the start of school brought the confusing world of unkind behaviour and comments on what's not 'normal' or 'acceptable'.
But that day, his words landed differently. They made me realise that while I was teaching my two young children to live the truth in their hearts, I wasn’t fully living mine.
For over twenty years I had held back on my big dreams and of fully embracing who I was, fearing what people might say. That moment became my turning point. I knew that if I wanted my children to grow up rooted in who they are, I had to do the same.
So I wrote Bowly Can Be Himself... Always: a story to help children hold onto who they are, no matter what the world around them says.

But more than that, I made the promise to myself, that this book would be my biggest, boldest step in becoming who I have always known I am, but had never dared to fully be.

Angharad Davies lives in South Wales with her husband and two sons (8 and 5). After witnessing the magic of story in her children for nurturing emotional intelligence, growth mindset and resilience, she decided to write her own.
Combining her knowledge from postgraduate qualifications in Psychology and Play Therapy with her children's love for humorous reads, Bowly - the little light-filled bowl - was born.
Having seen how engaged her children were in the book-creation process, she decided that more children needed to experience the magic. She now collaborates with hundreds of children across the UK to write her Bowly Can... picture books.
Angharad is now on a mission to turn her books into a powerful low-cost plug-and-play digital resource so that children everywhere can, from the earliest years, see potential within and the possibility all around.
